Monthly Aviation Education Night (formerly known as VMC/IMC Club)

Prince can become "formerly known as," Twitter can become "formerly known as" so why can't our VMC/IMC Club? This group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at our Chapter building. The concept began with guidance from EAA as a way to help pilots gain and maintain proficiency. The idea was to present a scenario, and then discussion would ensue about different approaches to that scenario. However, as our group evolved over time, it became apparent that our pilots wanted to include other types of discussion and presentations to inform our flying. So Chapter 838 has expanded this offering and doing so, has changed the name to reflect the more general nature of the group. Make no mistakes, this will still be a monthly interactive group with the goal of achieving and maintaining pilot proficiency, but the offerings will be a bit more robust than they have been in the past.

With a new direction, comes a new Coordinator. Kyle Kaliebe, a longtime member of Chapter 838 is local CFI who will be leading this group. They will contiinue to meet on the second Tuesday of each month, with the next meeting being March 12th at 7:00 pm in the classroom. If you are an old pilot, a new pilot, a rusty piilot, a student pilot or someone just wanting to learn more about being a proficient pilot, please feel free to come to thiis group and join in the discussion. All are welcome!

Weekly Shop Night

Have you ever wanted to learn how to pull a rivet? Are you mechanically inclined but have no space at home to build things? Are you interested in just seeing the internal workings of an airplane? If any of these apply to you, or if you are just curious, join our intrepid Monday Night Mechanics each Monday from 7:00 pm until people get tired. We are currently rebuilding an engine and completing an airplane that was begun by one of our members who unfortunately passed away before the plane was finished. The goal is to fly it once in memory of the late, great Roy Stuart, and then hang it in our museum. All are welcome to come and observe, pitch in and learn. Youth, please bring a parent with you - they might get interested as well! If you have any questions, please contact Glen Malkmus, our Shop Coordinator.
